Electrical Hazards: Electrical Failures

In the United Kingdom and I suspect anywhere else in the world; Many electricity enthusiasts are caused by the few DIY enthusiasts who have more enthusiasm than knowledge; For example, by buying new modern luminaries and trying to connect them to existing wiring, a large number of old properties do not have a ground wire in the lighting circuit. This makes any metal luminaries very insecure, it is not recommended.

When a new lighting cable is connected to the ceiling roses, it is possible and quite common to be confused about which cable is the switch line [switch return], since in many cases the return of the switch in old circuits is a cable black, which should be marked to show that it is activated when it is usually changed with a red case.

In the new installations, this cable will now be blue, but it must still be marked to show that it will be alive when it is changed, again they will be new colors, so they will be identified with a brown sheath. Many DIY enthusiasts confuse this wire with the neutral and, therefore, connect it to the neutral, which results in the circuit burning a fuse or tripping a circuit breaker. This for me is one of the most common failures that ask me to rectify in domestic circuits.

Another typical fault with the lighting circuits is the spring contact in the pendant. Because it does not have a good connection, which happens from time to time, the contact with the bulb [lamp] is not as strong as it should be and heats up when it turns on and cools when it goes out, this continuous action weakens the spring and results in overheating of the pendant and sometimes burns.

A favorite problem with DIY enthusiasts is the bi-directional and intermediate lighting circuits, which are used on the stairs for landing lighting. Once mastered, it is not a problem, but if you are not sure and try to wire this circuit without professional advice, you will certainly be missing one or two wires when you connect the switches. This is when domestic electricians are right because they understand what is required and the correct amount of cable will be installed before making any plaster.

Domestic electricians know exactly what to do with regard to house wiring; you do not necessarily need an important company to achieve results, your local electrician is quite capable of completing a new wiring of any domestic situation. In addition, you will receive documentation of completion and security. If you do not know your local electrician, you can log in to the MA Electrical Contractor website, enter your zip code and you will be shown several local sparks that will be familiar with your property and the local area. Electricians registered by MA Electrical Contractor must comply with electrical safety standards dictated by IEE wiring regulations; 17th Edition. And it will be a competent Part P.

Being a registered MA Electrical Contractor electrician, I can only recommend that you follow the safest and, in the long run, the most cost-effective way to extend, repair, rewire or simply test your installation by contacting your competent and qualified local electrician. If you live in or near Sheffield, that will be me at https://maelectricalcontractor.com/.
